Chinese kids company UYoung Media and Australian prodco Cheeky Little Media have joined together in an expanded licensing, distribution and c0-development pact. Going forward, UYoung will distribute all of Cheeky Little Media’s future content within Mainland China and manage L&M rights to the company’s IPs in the region. (UYoung has already been distributing Cheeky Little Media’s Kazoops (pictured) and Bottersnikes & Gumbles in China.) The deal will also see the companies co-develop new properties for both Chinese and global markets. Kazoops launched on major VOD platforms in China last October and will bow on CCTV Kids in 2018. The animated series also airs internationally on CBeebies (the UK), ABC Kids (Australia) and Netflix (the US and Canada). Bottersnikes & Gumbles, meanwhile, is a co-production with UK-based CAKE and Australia’s Mighty Nice. It is set to air in China this year. Cheeky Little Media is not UYoung’s first Western co-pro partner. The company has collaborated with New York-based Little Airplane on P. King Duckling, which became the first-ever Chinese cartoon to air on Disney Junior in the US. UYoung is also working with Ireland’s Sixteen South on a series that is currently in development. In 2016, UYoung Media opened an L.A. office for subsidiary UYoung Entertainment.
